There are many activities available in and around Pomquet Beach Cottages. Games, as well as the lifejackets and paddles for canoeing and kayaking can be found in the Laundry Building. Please note that all water activities at Pomquet Beach Cottages are done at your own risk. There is also a number of brochures available to you in the Laundry Building.

Our cottages are within driving distance to two of Canada’s premier music Festivals. Use Pomquet Beach Cottages as your home base for music in Nova Scotia.
Summer Fest Antigonish
The Antigonish Summer Fest hosts a number of musicians at Columbus Field every August. Attend ths event to see some of the best music Nova Scotia has to offer while eating delicious foods from the Summer Fest Cookout.
Antigonish Jazz Fest
The Antigonish Jazz Fest takes place each November over the course of three days and features a variety of artists. Different artists perform at different businesses across the Town of Antigonish ensuring you get the best of both worlds – the best jazz music has to offer and a taste for the local community.
Stanfest Rogers Folk Festival
The Stanfest Rogers Folk Festival is an annual event located in Canso that delights both locals and tourists. Featuring a range of artists and vendors, this three-day camping/glamping event should be on the top of everyone’s to-do list. Tickets for Stanfest 2025 go on sale starting October 15th.
Celtic Colours
Celtic Colours is an international festival hosted in Cape Breton that takes place over the course of nine days each October. Hosting hundreds of events, such as live music from various groups and artists, assorted workshops (e.g., Acadian Mask Making, Blacksmithing, Beginner’s Drop Spindle Workshop), art exhibits, the Mabour Run, and more, the Celtic Colours festival makes for an unforgettable experience.
Granville Green
Granville Green is a 30-year old music festival located in Port Hawkesbury that takes place during Sunday nights in July and August. The event is free and known for hosting local artists such as Heather Rankin. Food vendors can be found on-site.
The Riverfront Jubilee
The Riverfront Jubilee located in New Glasgow is an annual three-day event known for featuring the best East Coast music has to offer. In the past, the Riverside Jubilee has hosted performers such as The Rankin Sisters, Classified, and The Stampeders. In 2025, the Riverside Jubilee takes place August 1st-3rd and an updated list of performers will be posted at a later date.
Riverside Speedway
Riverside is the only stock car racing facility in Canada east of Quebec to be sanctioned by NASCAR, hosting the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series annually since its inception in 2007.
Riverside International Speedway
Riverside International Speedway in James River currently advertises their Thanksgiving Special race that takes place on October 12th. Home of the largest outdoor entertainment venue in eastern Canada, the Riverside International Speedway is known for featuring some of the best stock car racing entertinment in North America. 2025 will mark the 55th year that vehicles come to race on the famous 1/3-mile oval racetrack.
IWK 250
The IWK 250 is a beloved event for both racers and racing fans alike across North America. Every year, the race includes celebrity NASCAR drivers. For example, the first 250 race was won by Billy Watson in 1977 and Regan Smith claimed the latest victory in 2024.
Antigonish Golf & Country Club
The Antigonish Golf & Country Club is a private 18-hole golf course located in the Town of Antigonish. This par-72 (6109 yards) course is designed by Bob Moote, with a course rating of 70.2 and a 125 slope. Green fee players are welcome.
Antigonish Golf & Country Club
The Antigonish Golf & Country Club is located in Antigonish and boasts a wide-range of available space for playing golf. Due to an increase in popularity over the years, what started in Whidden’s as a 6-holes golf course expanded to become the beloveed 18-hole gold course Antigonish has today.
Kilted Golf Tournament
The Kilted Golf Tournament is an annual event that takes place during the Antigonish Highland Games and is a staple of the Games’ tribute to celebrating Scottish culture. During the Highland Games, twice a day (7am and 1pm) teams of four take to playing the course in their kilts.
St. Francis Xavier University
StFX hosts a number of significant events throughout the year. Graduation and homecoming are the two signature events; but there a many more like Festival Antigonish, and numerous sports events and tournaments.
StFX University
StFX is a university known for its various programs including nursing, health sciences, and human kinetics. Famous for its legendary X-Ring, StFX is home to the vibrant Antigonish community and features small class sizes and qualified professors.
The U
This student-driven committee embodies what it means to be an Xaverian through the volunteers that give back to campus life. From Drive U to Kevin’s Corner, students are supported in a number of ways. Additionally, the Student Union at StFX provides up to date information about on-campus jobs and upcoming events.
Acadian Culture
The Chez DesLauriers property and Pomquet Development Society maintain Acadian culture in Nova Scotia through its tourist-based events in the summer. The Chez DeLauriers property is located on a coastal rise in Monk’s Head with commanding views of St. George’s Bay, Pomquet Beach and Cape Breton in the distance. A 6-km coastal and inland walking trail (Pomquet Acadian Trails) is located directly to the north of the property.
Chez DeLauriers
The Chez DeLauriers property promotes Acadian culture and encourages tourism in the community throughout the months of July to August, where they host a number of events. From lunches to history lessons, both Mi’kmaq and Acadian culture are maintained.
Pomquet Development Society
The Pomquet Development Society boasts its Acadian culture through Pomquet’s pristine beaches and the animals who live there. Using the boardwalk, visitors learn about the different animals around the area, including the endangered piping plovers.
Antigonish Highland Games
The Antigonish Highland Games has built a worldwide reputation based on authenticity, attention to detail, and hospitality. The week long schedule features athletes, pipers, drummers, and highland dancers from across the country and around the world.
Antigonish Highland Games
The annual July event boasts a range of activities that supports the Scottish culture and heritage, including piping and drumming, Highland dancing, fiddle music and step-dancing, athletics and the Ancient Scottish Heavy Events. Information regarding scheduling for the 160th Antigonish Highland Games will be released in April 2025.
Highland Games Society
The Antigonish Highland Society, founded in 1861, remains an important part of Antigonish culture. Through this Society, the culture of the Caledonians and Scottish descendants continues to thrive today. The Antigonish Higland Society credits Rod J. Chisholm for his efforts in dubbing Antigonish as “The Highland Heart of Nova Scotia”.
Local Antigonish Culture
The Town of Antigonish combines its agricultural roots with modern day art and culture from art fairs, to musical festivals, parades, the Farmer’s Market, the Eastern Nova Scotia Exhibition, and more. What Antigonish lacks in size, the town more than makes up for it in culture and events.
The Bauer Theatre
Main Stage and Family Stage performances take place at the Bauer Theatre, a beautifully renovated, 222-seat facility that offers free parking, air-conditioning, and wheelchair access. Featuring a variety of plays the Bauer Theatre has something for everyone, thanks to the talent and hardwork of locals within the Antigonish community.
Eastern Nova Scotia Exhibition
First begun as a fall fair by the County of Sydney Agricultural Society in October of 1853, the Eastern Nova Scotia Exhibition boasts a number of events from animal showmanship, Tug-of-War, the ATV and dog shows. The fall fair also displays the local talent of 4-H’ers, vegetable farmers, and quiltmakers.
Antigonight Art After Dark Festival
Since its inception in 2010, the Antigonight Art After Dark Festival has been Antigonish Culture Alive’s most recognizable and popular outdoor, public art event. The festival provides an opportunity for artists to display their work and become known within the community. It gives the community the chance to interact with contemporary art such as dance, theatre, music, sound art, and installation art.
